Last Saturday Purton Tennis Club held the first Midsummer Tournament at the Redhouse. The closed tournament was in a Ryder Cup format, pitting the club’s Men’s and Ladies captains against each other. All the entrants were split into two teams captained by either Jason or Sass and were drawn into playing doubles matches against each other, both men’s, ladies and mixed with each match worth 1 point to the respective teams.

At the halfway point, Team Jason were taking a hell of a beating, at one point finding themselves 9-5 down. They managed to claw it back after results went for them in round three finding themselves to be trailing Team Sass by just one point at 11-10.

It was all to play for in the final round, but after a few results had come in, it was team Captain Jason, who found himself and his partner Ann needing the win in their mixed doubles match to keep their hopes alive. They only managed to get the draw against Ash and Lou Crawford, which meant that Team Sass had won the tournament in the end by only 1 point.

Thanks to everyone that entered the tournament and made it such a success, especially to Kim, Paul and Gez who very kindly made up the numbers, and to Bob and Sylvie for the photography skills!
