Nick Adley ran a mini red tournament for youngsters at Purton Tennis Club last weekend. See his report below:
Purton Tennis Club hosted a tennis tournament for players aged eight and under on Saturday the 15th of July. The tournament was played on a mini tennis red sized court approximately half the length of a full sized tennis court. Eight players took part in the tournament. Each match was played as a tiebreak to ten points and each player played three matches.
“Well done everyone! What some great mini tennis players, it was a joy to watch.” – Lindsey Hall, Purton Tennis Club Chair
The tournament was won by Edwin Vopson age 7. His powerful serve caused problems for each of his opponents. His closest match came in the semi-finals where he came back to beat Joel Brewer 13-11 after Joel was leading for much of the match. Edwin’s brother Daniel age 4 also impressed in his first ever tournament winning two matches. He was able to rally consistently with his forehand being particularly impressive. All players got certificates at the end.
Well done to all those that attended, and congratulations to Edwin from all the members at Purton Tennis Club!
