Purton Tennis Club held it’s annual Khalique Cup on the 20th May and what a success it was! The weather was glorious, the tennis was great and the food was even better, but nothing could top the refreshing pint outside the Redhouse afterwards!
There were 14 pairs that entered this year which were split into three groups. The top two in each group went through to the main competition, along with the two next best pairs to make a quarter-final knockout round, before the semi-finals decided which two pairs would battle it out for the Khalique Cup. The rest of the pairings, were split into two groups and played a round robin, the winners of each group would then go on to play each other in the Plate Final.
Khalique, owner of the Maharaja restaurant in Purton, came down to offer his support once again, and very kindly brought down some curry for all to enjoy. The club managed to raise just over £380 from the tournament which will go towards the urgent fencing works required on courts 3 and 4 which is a fantastic achievement. Thanks to all that came on the day, whether playing or watching, especially to those that entered from other clubs. We look forward to seeing you at the Miller Cup on the 9th September.
